Scoop

Scoop: Volunteering for Marketing

Water For People has a variety of volunteer programs to engage in. From donating time with World Water Corps to do data collection, monitoring and analysis of fieldwork, to working with a committee in North America to fundraise and advocate on our behalf to volunteering your time in the US Headquarters office, there is a variety of options.

One such option is to volunteer in the “Scoop” program. This is the volunteer opportunity where you can work in the creative fields of writing, photography or videography to support the creative work of Water For People’s marketing team. This group is dedicated to getting the word out onto the street for Water For People.

On a limited basis the Marketing Department chooses select volunteers to travel to country programs and photograph our work or document our programs. These assignments are heavily sought after and competition is heavy. The basic parameters on these assignments are:

  • Quality of existing body of work
  • Ability to shoot in the developing world
  • Experience shooting in the developing world
  • Experience in journalism and capturing a story (in chosen medium)
  • Experiences traveling and living in the developing world
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to release copyright of all produced materials as a donation to Water For People

Successful candidates typically:

  • Have traveled extensively in the developing world
  • Are fit
  • Are flexible to the demands and rigors of this travel
  • Have a 10+ year body of high quality work
  • Are willing to cover their airfare

If you’d like to be considered for the 2-3 assignments that we have each year, please write a letter to the Director of Marketing that has the following:

  • Overview of your work (send a link to some of your work)
  • Overview of why you would want to volunteer for Water For People
  • Experience traveling in the developing world
  • Countries of preference (where we work) and your ability to speak the local language(s), which isn’t a requirement all the time
  • An explanation of why this cause is important to you
  • A current resume or CV
  • Send materials (or post a link to download) to our main email address from the contact page and direct to “Marketing Director”

Your application will be reviewed and stored and you will be contacted that it has been received. As assignments come available applicable candidates will be screened at that time.
