Water For People Gala Raises $80,000 at Inaugural Women in Water Event

Event recognizes actions of women in water, celebrates industry and government partnerships to provide sustainable water solutions and hygiene education worldwide.
On Monday, June 13, Water For People hosted a gala to recognize Women in Water at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC. The inaugural event – presented by the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) – was attended by more than 500 people, raising $80,000 to benefit Water For People, a 501(c)3 organization that helps people in developing countries improve quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education programs.
With $5,000, Water For People can build a lasting and sustainable water pump for a village; while $20,000 can support water and sanitation for a school and health clinic.
A robust lineup of women’s advocates and water leaders shared their personal experiences working with women across the globe to provide everyone with safe water and hope for the future. Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Maria Otero and Former U.S. Ambassador Hattie Babbitt headlined the event, along with Water For People and water industry representatives.
