Each Swing, Chip, Putt (and Slice) Helps Support Water For People

DENVER – August 3, 2010 – On Wednesday, August 4, friends, colleagues, and supporters of Water For People (www.waterforpeople.org) will take to the tees and greens for the CDM & The Coca-Cola Company 2010 Water For People Golf Classic at Sanctuary golf course presented by RE/MAX.

The sold-out event includes a welcome reception, four-person scramble golf tournament, lunch, dinner, silent auction and awards reception following the completion of the tournament. All net proceeds support Water For People and its mission to work to build a world where all people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Last year the tournament raised over $200,000 for Water For People.

“We look forward to the opportunity to spend time with these forward thinkers and generous supporters of Water For People,” said Ned Breslin, Water For People CEO. “These companies and individuals greatly enhance the capacity of Water For People’s work, and the fact that the event is sold out speaks volumes of the support we receive.”

Water For People focuses on lasting solutions among its projects by leveraging local resources and partnerships in-country and by monitoring and assessing its work over time.

“We are proud that our supporters hold us to high standards,” continued Breslin, “and we will continue to work toward the highest levels of project accountability and sustainability for both our supporters and beneficiaries in the field.”

Dr. Paul Bowen, Water Technology Manager at The Cola-Cola Company and former member of Water For People’s Board of Directors, has been instrumental in the organization of the event.

“Our partnership with Water For People is based on a shared vision of a world where all people have access to safe drinking water. As a beverage company, we know that water is essential to our business, and moreover, to life itself. Therefore, we’ve set a goal to return to communities and nature an amount of water equivalent to what we use in our beverages and their production by 2020. By partnering with organizations like Water For People, we can meet this goal, and by doing so, help create sustainable communities across the globe.”

This is Water For People’s sixth year at Sanctuary golf course, which has been ranked as one of America’s top 100 courses by Golf Digest.

About Water For People
Founded in 1991, Water For People is an international, nonprofit humanitarian organization that focuses on long-lasting, safe drinking water resources and improved sanitation facilities in the developing world. While Water For People is in its 20th year of work it focuses not on creating a dependency on charity in the 11 countries it works in, but rather creating the ability of the local community to plan, build, finance, maintain and operate their own systems. The organization works in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America to show that its successful programs are adaptable around the world and can be replicated anywhere. In 2009 it served over 325,000 beneficiaries. Water for People is a charity of choice of the American water and wastewater community. For more information, visit www.waterforpeople.org.
