Dominican Republic

Although the Dominican Republic is often known for its beautiful all-inclusive resorts and famous baseball players, the reality is that the people of the Dominican Republic suffer from a lack of safe drinking water and basic sanitation services.

In 2007, the Water For People World Water Corps® completed a study to determine in which new countries Water For People would work. The Dominican Republic had immense need for Water For People’s involvement and was chosen for a new country program.

Dominican Republic country program

Water and Sanitation Conference

In April 2009, Water For People held a Water and Sanitation Conference to establish next steps of the country program. The conference brought together over 15 nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that presented some of the water and sanitation needs in the Dominican Republic and how Water For People and others can help address them. In response, Water For People awarded $24,000 to several presenting organizations to fund their work.
