World Water Corps

Take a group of dedicated volunteers from all over the world, and give them the mission of assessing need, gathering data, and interviewing people in local communities to find out what’s working and what’s not, and you get a novel monitoring program, the World Water Corps®.

World Water Corps is an innovative program that serves the needs of local communities, Water For People, and its local partners and builds up a cadre of dedicated, caring ambassadors to the world water and sanitation crisis.

Established in 2007, the World Water Corps is the arm of Water For People that monitors the work that happens in the field. Through observation and interviews with people on the ground in homes, clinics, schools, and community water points, World Water Corps is on the front lines of determining what is happening and what is needed by the people who need it the most.

First, volunteers bring in the vital data the organization needs to improve its efforts in the field. Second, volunteers provide the data that go into a public, online system that allows transparency to all—staff, volunteers, government, other NGOs, community- based organizations, donors, and, most importantly beneficiaries.

But unlike many volunteer opportunities, World Water Corps isn’t focused on digging wells or constructing latrines. Many ask us why. The answer is simple. Water For People’s model focuses on local investment, local motivation, and local resources. Water For People is helping to build community, that can last over time. Charity alone doesn’t do that. We support the network of local resources that must come together to make this happen. In this context, World Water Corp's best role is to keep us accountable.

Volunteering is a vital function at Water For People. The World Water Corps is a significant portion of all our volunteering opportunities. We hope that you can join us through this innovative program.
