About the Position
Water For People is currently recruiting for the position of Grant Accountant.
The Grant Accountant provides global grant, financial, accounting, and reporting services across the organization. This position collaborates with the Finance Grants Manager to maintain accurate handling of grants and provides accurate and transparent data for grant reporting. The Grant Accountant records and reports all accounting information related to accounting funds including donor invoicing, cash reception, and restricted revenue release.
Essential Job Functions and Duties
Reviews and ensures the accuracy of accounting information against grant reports received from program and/or grant managers.
Plays a key role in enhancing our accounting and reporting system, NetSuite, to ensure timely and accurate reporting of grant data.
Accurately classifies and reviews revenues and expenses allocated to grants in NetSuite.
In collaboration with the Finance Grant Manager, manages and creates new grant and donor identifications in NetSuite. This includes the creation of records and accounting segments.
Prepares regular internal financial reports to track revenue and expense variances, full cost recovery expenditures, funding gaps, and absorptive capacities of program budgets.
Develops a key role in managing NetSuite as an appropriate solution for grant financial management.
Prepares, maintains, and reports relevant accounting indicators per grant source being able to establish cost coverage indicators per grant.
Collaborates with the Controller and the rest of accounting team to optimize the grant management component of the financial and accounting systems.
Prepares and maintains internal documents to support donor financial reports.
Meets monthly with Regional Finance Managers and Finance Grants Manager to maintain accurate grant balances, updating NetSuite accordingly.
Maintains and updates grant billings and ensures that they are recorded in the ledger.
Prepares, reviews, and enters reconciling and other adjusting journal entries.
Manages cash as it relates to grant funding sources.
Supports external audits.
Ensures accurate and up-to-date currency exchange rates in grant budgeting and reporting, and supports reforecasting grant budgets, if needed.
Prepares special grant reports as needed.
Supports the development of grant management policies and procedures.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent related work experience.
3 or more years of experience in accounting.
2 years of grant accounting experience.
Understanding of US GAAP compliant accounting principles and standards, and nonprofit accounting standards.
Strong analytical and complex problem-solving skills.
Strong written communication skills and a deep understanding of how to write high quality process documents.
Knowledge of accounting and financial planning software, preferably NetSuite.
High level of attention to detail, self-motivated, and a team player.
Ability to be a strategic and analytical thinker, energetic, and ready to demonstrate enthusiasm and leadership in this role.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Spanish language skills are strongly preferred.
Advanced computer proficiencies with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally to developing countries, where travel is rugged.
Ability to work in an open office environment
