From there, every aspect of a girl&#8217;s life &#8211; school, safety, health, economic opportunity, safe childbirth &#8211; is impacted by the lack of access to safe water and sanitation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Globally, women and girls are responsible for water collection in 7 out of 10 households without water at their homes.\u00b9<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Adding to all of this are the effects of climate change. Infections account for 26% of neonatal deaths and 11% of maternal mortality.\u2074<\/p>\n\t<strong>\"Access to water and sanitation are human rights.<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Where females are unable to enjoy those rights, their health is profoundly affected, curtailing their educational and economic opportunities, and denying them their full role in society.\"\u00a0<\/strong>\n<p>&#8211; United Nations Water<\/p>\n\t\t<h2>\n\t\t\tWhat the Crisis Looks Like\n\t\t<\/h2>\n\t<blockquote data-card-key=\"60059066b5a549c790566808b5b9918a\" data-card-controls=\"0\" data-card-branding=\"0\" data-card-type=\"article-full\"><h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2022\/07\/india-public-toilets-womens-health\/670932\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Some Indian Women Have No Choice but to Hold It In<\/a><\/h4><p>Researchers found that among women without proper toilet access, more than 21 percent reported holding in their urine and more than 26 percent said they modify their meals to avoid using the toilets at night.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\t<blockquote data-card-key=\"60059066b5a549c790566808b5b9918a\" data-card-controls=\"0\" data-card-branding=\"0\" data-card-image=\"https:\/\/cdn.cfr.org\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/open_graph_article\/public\/image\/2021\/03\/women-water-el-salvador.jpg\" data-card-type=\"article-full\"><h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfr.org\/blog\/womens-water-insecurity-global-health-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Women&#8217;s Water Insecurity Is a Global Health Crisis<\/a><\/h4><p>Women&#8217;s water insecurity is a global health crisis that impacts a multitude of regions, and disproportionately impacts women of color, low-income women, and children.
