Just over half of drinking water and sanitation sources in rural areas are safely managed.\u2074 In urban areas, safely managed sanitation is much lower. Our work across the states of Bihar, Maharashtra, and West Bengal aims to ensure water, sanitation, and hygiene services in every community, household, and public institution by working with governments, community members, and sector partners.<\/p>\nWater For People comenz\u00f3 a trabajar en India en 1996, y en 2008 creamos una filial local registrada para colaborar en proyectos financiados por empresas, fundaciones e individuos indios. But what I&#8217;m most proud of is that I&#8217;ve been to every state in India, and 90% of my travels have been to rural areas. And everywhere I&#8217;ve gone I&#8217;ve felt the warmth and diversity of people. It gives me hope for humanity itself.\"<\/p>\n<figure itemscope itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\">\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.waterforpeople.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Bishwadeep-Ghose-bw.jpg\" alt=\"Bishwadeep Ghose b&amp;w\" height=\"400\" width=\"400\" title=\"Bishwadeep Ghose blanco y negro\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\n\t<\/figure>\n\t<strong>Bishwadeep Ghose<\/strong><br \/>\nCountry Director, Water For People India\n\t\t\t\tOur Work in India\n\t\t\t\t<p>\u2022\u00a0Provide technical support to the state and district governments for the effective implementation of national WASH programs<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Install and rehabilitate water systems in communities and public institutions<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Develop and support Water User Committees, comprised mostly of women, that oversee the operation and maintenance of water points<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Train local entrepreneurs on maintaining and repairing handpumps and piped water schemes\u00a0<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Support governmental programs through capacity building of the service providers, such as Village Water and Sanitation Committees and Ward Implementation Management Committees, to manage, finance, and maintain these new systems<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Strengthen service authorities so that they are able to manage, finance, and monitor water services in their districts<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Partner with local microfinance institutions to provide loans to families and community groups to invest in sanitation facilities<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Provide loans to sanitation entrepreneurs for developing their enterprises and support them through marketing trainings, business planning, and product supply<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Drive research and pilot new sanitation products, ideas, and tools <br \/>\u2022 Co-finance and construct community toilet blocks in urban areas, while supporting local committees to maintain the toilet blocks and ensure sustainability<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Construct school sanitation and water infrastructure, building separate toilet blocks for girls and boys that include handwashing stations, changing rooms that provide the privacy required during menstruation, and incinerators for the disposal of sanitary products<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Empowering girls through menstrual hygiene management trainings and communications\u00a0<br role=\"presentation\" \/>\u2022 Ensure vulnerable and excluded populations, including the extreme poor, low caste, and tribal communities, have access to safe water and sanitation services<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tD\u00f3nde trabajamos\n\t\t\t\t<p>Water For People trabaja en los estados de Maharashtra, Bengala Occidental y Bihar.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tNuestra estrategia\n\t\t\t\t<p>Water For People re\u00fane a comunidades, empresas locales y gobiernos para construir, operar y mantener sus propios sistemas de agua y saneamiento.
