2023 Water For People Founders' Day Registration

Thanks for your interest in our rescheduled Founders' Day Celebration, now taking place on Tuesday Sept. 12, 2023. Whether you are registering for the first time or had previously signed up this spring, please register to help us get an accurate headcount. Please note the location change below.

Join us to help make the world a better place! We are honoring our American Water Works Association roots, accomplishments, and our founders by continuing the tradition of a Founders' Day Celebration! However, we're celebrating in a new way by doing a clean-up activity!

Please meet us at Calvary Church of Denver (5900 E Yale Ave.) in the parking lot where we'll gather to pick up trash and beautify a section of the Highline Canal in Denver. RSVP to attend by Wednesday, Sept. 6.

After the clean-up, we'll enjoy beer and pizza at the brewery as we celebrate the wonderful work and ongoing successes of our organizations as we continue to transform our Founders' dreams into a global reality of reaching Everyone with access to safe, reliable water. All of Water For People's accomplishments would not be possible without AWWA's dedication, support, guidance, and enthusiasm.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How should I dress?
    • Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants that are suitable for walking through brush. Depending on recent weather, this portion of the Canal may have water. If so, waterproof boots are recommended, but there is also plenty to clean up on the dry banks or trail for anyone without boots.
  • Do you have recommendations on what to wear/bring (sunscreen, water, etc.)?
    • Water, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, and a hat or sunglasses are all recommended! It is helpful if you bring your own gardening or work gloves if you have them, otherwise gloves will be provided.
  • What kind of work will we be doing?
    • You will be walking along the High Line Canal trail and walking down into the actual Canal to remove litter. Each volunteer will be provided gloves, a trash picker, and trash bags. Volunteers will make piles of bags of trash along with any large items found for pickup the next day.
  • Can family members participate?
    • Yes, but all volunteers must have a signed waiver. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have their waiver signed by a parent or guardian, and youth under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Can you tell me more about the High Line Canal Conversancy?
    • The High Line Canal Conservancy is a nonprofit representing the passionate community dedicated to preserving the High Line Canal. The Conservancy provides leadership to guide preservation and enhancement efforts working collaboratively with the public and Conservancy partners, including Denver Water, the 11 jurisdictions along the Canal’s reach and Mile High Flood District. The Conservancy’s efforts will lead to a natural, more connected corridor with improved access, amenities and safety for trail users.

Thank you for joining Water For People for our 2023 Founders' Day activity!
