Water For People Joins the Coalition for Racial & Ethnic Equity in Develpment

DENVER, February 25, 2022 — Water For People is pleased to join the Coalition for Racial & Ethnic Equity in Development (CREED) and sign the Pledge for Racial & Ethnic Equity (REE). Water For People is joining more than 30 not-for-profit and for-profit development organizations publicly committing to building diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environments.

Water For People CEO, Eleanor Allen, commented: "I am proud that Water For People signed the Pledge for Racial & Ethnic Equity in Development. This pledge is well aligned with our organizational beliefs, our values, and supports our internal and external efforts in justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. We work to bring lasting quality water, sanitation, and hygiene services to the world’s most vulnerable, which are often also communities disproportionately marginalized by racial and ethnic differences. Our mission helps to change that imbalance."

By signing this Pledge, Water For People reiterates to:

  • Strengthening its commitments and accountability for REE within our own organizations’ policies, systems, and culture starting with our U.S.-based workplaces
  • Creating practical and quantifiable standards for advancing REE in our organization
  • Working to instill REE as a core principle in the development sector

"In order to be effective and create meaningful shifts, CREED’s REE Pledge is taking a focused view to build equity by concentrating on strengthening racial and ethnic equity within United States-based organizations," said Indira Kaur Ahluwalia, Founder/Chair of CREED and CEO of KAUR Strategies. "CREED welcomes Water For People to a learning community of like-minded organizations committed to integrating REE to how we work."

Water For People believes that access to clean water is a human right, and is committed to making sure everyone — including the hardest-to-reach, the most vulnerable, and the marginalized — has access to safe and reliable water services, forever.
