Can I get a receipt for my past donation?
If you gave your gift through a third party platform such as Crowdrise or United Way, you’ll need to contact them for a receipt. If you made your gift through your employer’s payroll deduction program, the documentation you need to validate your charitable contribution is:
- A signed pledge card or other document authorizing your employer to deduct funds from your paycheck to give to Water For People, and
- Your paystubs, W-2, or other document furnished by your employer showing the amounts and dates of those deductions.
The documentation differs slightly if any single paycheck deduction exceeds $250. You can find those instructions, as well as the ones stated above, in IRS Publication 526. Internal processes vary from employer to employer but you should be able to contact your human resources or payroll department to get a copy of your pledge card or, if your company uses an electronic system, it should have a way to request validation for the year.
