Water For People celebra el Día Mundial del Agua con el lanzamiento del Club 6

Organización sin fines de lucro invita a realizar donaciones de $6 mensuales en apoyo al Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible 6: Agua limpia y saneamiento para todos

DENVER, March 22, 2021 — Global nonprofit Water For People is marking World Water Day with the launch of Club 6, a new monthly giving community that invites donations of just $6 per month. This budget-friendly entry point recognizes that, even those who might not have much to give can still play an important role in supporting the cause of clean water. The price point is also a nod to Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible 6 de las Naciones Unidas: Agua limpia y saneamiento para todos. 

COVID-19 laid bare the disparities in water access around the world. Handwashing is a community’s first defense against the virus, but a shocking 50% of health clinics in low- and middle-income countries do not have piped water for handwashing, and 39% do not have soap.  With nearly 1 in 3 people globally lacking access to clean water, and 1 in 2 without safe and dignified toilets, through Club 6, Water For People hopes to create a groundswell of support for its sustainable programs around the world.

"We are less than 10 years away from 2030, when the United Nations has challenged our sector to finally end the world water crisis and ensure everyone has reliable access to water and a toilet," said Water For People CEO Eleanor Allen. "Club 6 is our way of saying there’s a way for everyone to contribute. Yes, YOU can help us solve this challenge, even if you don’t have a lot to give. By giving up one beer or one coffee and donating that amount each month, your support makes a difference!"

While $6 per month may not seem like much, over a year’s time, this grows to $72 and provides at least one person with reliable water access for an entire year. On average, it costs Water For People just over $60 to provide a year’s worth of water to a person in need. Donations are further multiplied thanks to funding from local and regional governments who co-invest alongside Water For People to ensure their own communities, schools, and health clinics have the water and sanitation services they deserve.
