Access to safe drinking water reduces emigration in Guatemala

Puerto Morelos (Mexico), Nov 30 (EFE).- Access to basic services such as drinking water is important to prevent families in the "dry corridor" of Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala from migrating to other countries, said Daniel Oporto, director for Latin America at Water for People.

According to data collected by The World Bank, India has 18 per cent of the world's population but only four per cent of its water resources, making it one of the most water-stressed countries in the world. In summer time, water becomes as precious as gold in large parts of India, with climate change exacerbating an already hazardous situation.

Sanitation and Hygiene Influencers Making the Difference

William Musoni spends his days working as a laborer. When he's not working, he educates communities in Rwanda's Eastern Province on good hygiene practices, with a special focus on handwashing. As a mobilizer for community savings and loan associations, he also encourages people to invest in and use proper sanitation facilities and products.
