We don't just say it's sustainable. We prove it.

We have a responsibility to those we serve to make sure our investments last. We are the only organization that guarantees at least 10 years of post-project monitoring in the areas we work.

In 2010, we implemented FLOW, Field Level Operations Watch. FLOW is a dynamic Water For People baseline and monitoring tool that allows us to get a clear view of what’s working, what’s on the verge of disrepair, and what’s broken. Not only will Water For People use the data to make better programming decisions, but governments, partners, donors and the public can also easily monitor projects and take action when necessary. Plus, the data is easy to gather, share and understand allowing us to build better solutions for a lasting impact.

Utilizing cutting edge technology—including Android cell phone technology and Google Earth software—data is recorded on an Android phone application, uploaded from the field to the database, and immediately visible on the Water For People web site.

Water For People crafted a new Strategic Plan in 2010 calling for post-project monitoring for at least 10 years. We believe the words transparency and sustainability hold no water without substantive proof. We will hold ourselves accountable for—and encourage our supporters and donors to hold us accountable for—making smart investments and data-driven decisions so that we can make a long-lasting impact.

To achieve this, community members, entrepreneurs, industry professionals, partners, staff, and World Water Corps volunteers monitor Water For People projects annually and put the data into FLOW. To impact sustainability, it’s essential that data is reported quickly, responses to problems are immediate, and results are tracked.

FLOW enables Water For People to demonstrate real data and real results. It allows Water For People to build on its programmatic strengths and identify areas of weakness that need to improve. As data is uploaded to the database, Water For People staff have access to comprehensive information enabling us to respond quickly, in a trackable manner to ensure accountability.

The people we serve deserve it, as do our donors, sponsors and volunteers.
